1:30pm JST - DM3RMX: The Occupied Base
A day earlier than planned, but since I will be busy tomorrow I've released my new map. My previous map was a big multiplayer
level for Wolfenstein, but I've always known that I wanted to make another Quake map or two. DM3RMX is a level I started
whilst I was quite well into making another, larger level, as I had been getting a bit bored of that level and getting too many
ideas for other things that I couldn't stop thinking about. One of those ideas was an SP remake of John Romero's DM3, which I kept
thinking about time and time again, until eventually I got to work on it. This is the result. Enjoy!
IMPORTANT NOTE: This map REQUIRES a non-standard engine to run because it exceeds the edict limit of regular Win and
GLQuake. I recommend John Fitzgibbons' Fitzquake,
although Bengt Jardrup's High-Capacity Quake
is also a great engine, and will run pretty much any map you throw at it, including huge maps such as Masque of the Red Death.
Anyway, as the readme states, this was intended to be part of an episode of multiplayer map conversions (DM1-7) but I had barely enough
time just to make this. Maybe someday I (or someone else) will get around to making the other levels.
12:30pm JST - The Travail demo is fun!
Yesterday, the folk over at the Travail booth released
a demo of their forthcoming Travail partial conversion for Quake. The demo contains just the start map and first
level and is well worth downloading as not only is it fun, but it is a nice little preview as to what we can expect from
the pack when it is released in October. The start map is worth mentioning as it features the best Nightmare skill
select hall ever, as well as some cool slipgates.
